Clitheroe receive funding boost from Tarmac Landfill fund for new roller

We at Clitheroe Cricket Club are delighted to receive a grant of £18,034 from the Tarmac Landfill Communities Fund towards the purchase of a brand new top-of-the range Poweroll county roller.

The purchase of the roller will complement the £65,000 lottery-funded regeneration of the square (work to begin September 2017) and will provide our club with the capability to produce cricket wickets of the highest quality.

Matt Pixton, estates manager at Tarmac, said: “We’re delighted to be able to fund such a worthwhile project which will provide numerous benefits to the local community. Engaging with the communities in which we operate is something we strive to do across our business and helping improve the facilities of the cricket club is a great opportunity to do this.”

Cricket chairlady Helen Hewitt enthused: “The Club has been working hard to develop and grow the junior, senior, and social sections over the last few years; with the 2015 and 2016 seasons proving to be a success for all junior sides in the Lancashire Junior League, and likewise for our senior teams in the Ribblesdale League. Crucial to our continued progress is investment in our facilities and infrastructure. With investments such as this from Tarmac, we believe we are now moving into an even stronger position in our debut Lancashire League campaign, where we can continue to attract and develop new players to participate in and enjoy the sport from the local and surrounding communities. The future sustainability of the Club relies on the success of developing a pool of young, enthusiastic, and talented players who naturally move into playing senior cricket as they develop their skills.“

Similarly delighted was funding co-ordinator Tom Bailey, who said: “It is great that funding bodies such as Tarmac continue to recognise the progress that our club is making, both on and off the field. Given that our old roller has served us for over 50 years, this equipment should benefit Clitheroe Cricket Club members (and the numerous stakeholders who use our ground) for generations to come!”

The new wicket roller should arrive in time for our inaugural Lancashire league campaign in 2017. To allow us to safely and securely store the roller, we are hosting a race night on the 3rd February to raise funds for a new storage facility – horses and races are available to purchase (and name) here!
