Pre-season Preview 1- Peter Dibb

1 year ago By Web Manager

First up - the 1st XI vice skipper

1st XI vice captain (and self-proclaimed housewives favourite) Peter Dibb kicks off our 2017 previews, after his popular feature pre the 2016 campaign (remarkably accurate when you look back!). It is hoped that we will be able to get thoughts from all aspects of the club over the next 6 weeks, before we kick-off our debut Lancs League season on Easter Sunday.

Since we last spoke you have had a great time of it on the field...What were your highlights of last season?
Last season was a great year for the club as a whole. Both the junior and senior teams showed the current strength and depth that we have in a trophy laden season! Personal highlight had to be us winning the treble, emulating the legendary Neil Bolton's feat. Winning the cup final at home was particularly special. The celebrations even more so!!

How is the team/club getting ready for our first Lancs League season? Have you noticed any changes?
The team is working hard to prepare for the season. We have endured boxing as a team bonding/fitness exercise. Some of the pillow fists on show from the lads were a sight that won't exactly worry the local doormen! We are now focusing more on our cricket based training, which is all led by a new coaching set up so the boys are being put through their paces! The club has had some major investment in the facilities over the winter, so every credit to those involved. On and off the field, I have never known the club to be in a better place.

You've had a brief spell in the Lancs League before with Nelson, what were your impressions and what are you looking forward to about returning with your hometown club?
I did have a brief spell with Nelson, and genuinely enjoyed my time there, meeting some great lads. The Lancashire league will offer up a slightly different brand of cricket, mainly due to the majority of grounds being bigger than your average Ribblesdale League ground. So the lads will need to adjust to that fairly quickly. But cricket is cricket, score more runs than the opposition and you win the game. Simple!

What does a successful season look like both for you and from the teams perspective?
From some opinions I have heard over the winter, surely we can only hope to compete, right? What I will say is that we are more than happy to be underdogs in many of our league fixtures. We've spent the last few seasons under pressure to win every game we played so it will be nice to turn up and have other teams under that pressure to beat us. We know inside our dressing room what we're capable of and we know what we are capable of achieving this season but we have built our success on letting others talk, we will just do what we do! Having won the Ribblesdale League for the last 4 years in a row, I would like to think we can play a little bit. Let's see how that converts into next season, time will tell! From a personal perspective, helping to win games for the boys and the club is the only way I will measure success.

CLITHEROE CC PREDICTIONS
Leading run scorer?
(Pro aside) Jack Dewhurst ... he's an absolute Jet, and the most connected man in Tassy!
Leading wicket taker? Tough one this year as I feel we have a very strong and well balanced bowling attack. Josh and Marcus are capable of taking big wickets but it depends if they're evergreen bodies allow it. Sam, Dewy, Harrison, Alistair Ian Ross and the pro will also be looking to take that leading wicket taker slot. I've basically listed the majority of our bowling attack there! One things for sure though, it won't be me or gask (well definitely not gask anyway... bowls a bag of spanners at best)!
Youngster to watch out for? Some very exciting young players coming through. Charlie Dewhurst and Sam Mulligan certainly have huge potential. Also, Harrison is still a young lad with enormous talent. Our club is littered with great young players though, and they will hopefully just keep working hard to improve. Also in the background are your likes of young Neil Bolton, a floaty off spinner that bats too, tendency to pull off length but with so many years ahead of him, that can hopefully be rectified.
Any other predictions? Tom Lord to be knighted for his services to Barrowford. Rise Sir Thomas!!

LANCASHIRE LEAGUE PREDICTIONS
Some very good teams in the lancs league, your likes of Ramsbottom, Lowerhouse, Burnley plus others so it's tough to call on the silverware front but I would be surprised if those three teams weren't in the mix in all comps.

Where would you like to see the club in 12 months time?
Continuing to thrive on and off the field. The junior section is in the best position it has ever been in and the senior teams are coming off the back of some real golden times. There is huge investment going in to the clubs training and playing facilities and I can only see us going from strength to strength. Roll on April!
