Today's preview features 1st XI captain Paul Gaskell! Paul can lay claim to being Clitheroe's most successful captain ever on the field, which, combined with his tireless off the field efforts, have been a key driver in getting the club to the point we are today. On the eve of this historic first weekend of the Lancashire League season, the skipper gives his thoughts on the current campaign (and some more general musings).
In what is your 5th year as club captain, how has the club and the make-up of your side changed in that period?
It's a funny one that, a lot has changed but in a way it hasn't. The club is still the same friendly, community place that it's always been. I always think it's like a sitcom - we are like a bunch of social misfits with two things in common, cricket and beer!
On the pitch we have developed a winning mindset, there has not been a situation we have come up against that we don't know how to get out of and win.
One thing that has remained constant, and we don't get any credit for this, is the amount of players that come from Pendle School (the junior school that backs onto out ground)...at last count it was 15, and I think 8 played in the last 1st XI game of 2016!
It could be argued that you are the most successful CCC captain of all time, surpassing the achievements of the great Neil Bolton...What have been your highlights of the last 5 years?
The Great Neil Bolton - the Guru will love that!
It's hard to pick out individual moments, obviously you look back at the league wins at getting to the semi-finals of the Lancs Cup twice. We had some great pros (Janaka's contribution was phenomenal at times), but individual performances from Dibby and Dewie stick out the most. Dibby and Jack saved our bacon in the (2016) Rammy Cup final; it was special to see the local lads contribute in such a manner.
On a personal note it was being handed a beer at the crease (at Ormskirk) by Dr Bailey, that was certainly a first. We now have more doctors at the club than groundsman, and not one of them knows how to save your life!
Who are the best players you've played with and against at CCC?

I have to mention Janaka ... he's been a massive part of what the club has achieved over the last 3 seasons . I remember when we signed him , the agent sent Dibby his stats along with a photo (linked here).
Who wouldn't have signed him from that ... thankfully he couldn't half play to!
Other Pros- Shahid Nawaz scored masses of runs and made it look very easy. Naeem Ashraf was as destructive as any with both bat and ball...thankfully both eventually played for Clitheroe and both were great blokes off the field as well !
Josh Marquet / big red will surely go down as a legend of the club, done it year on year and has been in factor in the clubs success
The Guru in his pomp could pull anyone off length
Sharpy has shown how difficult he is to play against over recent seasons.
More recently, Jack Dewhurst has to be up there, as does the clubs 'leading ever run scorer' Peter Dibb
