Preseason Preview 3 - Andrew Wray

1 year ago By Web Manager

CCC superfan has his say!

This week's pre-season preview is with Clitheroe Cricket Club supporter Andrew 'Skinny' Wray. A talented sportsman himself in his 'younger years', Andrew's move to Clitheroe (free transfer from Sabden) has seen him become a regular follower of the team and, more recently, a valued volunteer on the committee.

How did you end up following CCC?
I've known some of the more seasoned members of the 1st team squad for years and used to watch the odd game back in the day. I hung up my golf clubs a few years back leaving the weekends free....so nipping down the road for a few beers, a spot of cricket (and some heckling) just became the norm!

At the risk of you being castigated as a 'glory seeker', your time following the club has coincided with a very successful time in our history...what have been your highlights?
On the playing side, last seasons treble, including the cup win on home soil is obviously right up there. Read away (during the cup run I think) snatching victory from the hands of defeat also sticks in the memory, as does a catch from Pierre which silenced the hostile home terrace at Great Harwood in 2014!
For personal performances, Janaka Gunaratne smashing Mr Britcliffe to all parts of Church Meadow for six sixes in an over has to be right up there.
In terms of days out, the Lancashire cup away day to Ormskirk, where we saw the emergence of 'Biscuit Boy' and the party bus to Lytham will live long in the memory.

With the new season just 4 weeks away, what are you looking forward to about our move to the Lancashire League?
Obviously the Lancs League will be a new experience for a many of us so visiting new grounds and making new 'friends' (the fish will see to that)!
Personally I'm looking forward to our trip to Lowerhouse and catching up with a few old mates.

CLITHEROE CRICKET CLUB
Leading wicket taker?

Tough call as we have plenty of strength in depth. If they are all taking wickets and fighting for the top spot we'll be doing ok.
Top runscorer?
Obviously we would expect the professional to be up there but otherwise it hard to look further than JD, fresh from a successful winter putting the Aussies to the sword.
One to watch?
After breaking into the 1st team last season, Sam Mulligan will be the one to watch.
Any other predictions?
Bails to leave an item of clothing at every away ground visited, and record bar takings at CCC (the two are in no way related!).

Where would you like to see the club in 12 months time?
It an exciting time for the club both on and off the field, with new projects coming thick and fast. Establishing ourselves as a competitive Lancs League team and building for the future of the club has to be the main goal.
