Preseason Preview 8 - Paul Gaskell (Part 2)

1 year ago By Web Manager

Part 2 of our preview with the club captain!

If you could have dinner with any CCC club member who would it be and why? (nicked from Todmorden!)
Good question...there's a couple who stand out who I wouldn't like to have dinner with !!! Erm The Boothman - It would be like dining with royalty #MayorofChatburn

How are the team/club getting ready for our first Lancs League season? Are you looking to do anything different this year?

Who writes these questions?? Yes we have taken up ice skating and ballet dancing in preseason!
Seriously, we have had the boys boxing this year, that's been eye opening. The club is looking excellent off the field, with the continued improvements of the facilities.
In terms of the team, we cannot wait to get started. We have wanted to join this league and now we are ready to show them what we can do.

Their have been some changes to personnel this year...Why have you made these changes and what impact are you expecting the new lads to have?

It's about good players wanting to join us, it's a great place to play and great people to play in front of. I remember Tom Lord saying that he thought he was coming to a nice quiet market town and playing cricket. Within two weeks he said everyone is a lunatic here...in the nicest possible sense! One thing we are grateful for is the support of everyone who comes and watches us home and away. Nothing raises the lads spirits like listening to Fishhead on one of his rants on the sidelines or puts the opposition off when fake Dr Bailey starts singing!
The new lads that we have brought in (Sam Halstead, Harrison Phelan, Matty King, Kurt Robinson, Sham Baba) will add competition. We have very good cricketers at the club and I expect us to play very good cricket this year.

What are your impressions of the Lancs League and what are you looking forward to about leading your side in 2017.

It will be the battles we are looking forward to, the competition. A few of us went to the Lowerhouse Burnley game a few years back; let me tell you, you cannot hide on there.
I am looking forward to seeing players develop and grasp the new challenge, the league is obviously tougher but that's the challenge we look forward to.

What does a successful season look like?
For me I will have captained Clitheroe in more Lancs League games than the great Neil Bolton!
For the team, winning, We will play better this year than on some occasions last year and we will lose, it's about learning from that and going again.
On the social side, I fully expect some banning orders to be placed on some of the away following, doesn't take many beers to come to light but there are some social hand grenades amongst them.
Seriously, cricket takes up most of your weekend, so the social side and events that are put on are fantastic and help bring everyone together.

CLITHEROE CC

Leading run scorer?
The smart money would be on JD but I'm expecting all to contribute at some stage,
Leading wicket taker?
Looking for forward to seeing the new lads bowling, adding to the quality we already have.
Youngster to watch out for?
Wouldn't be fair to single anyone out...the future looks promising!
Any other predictions?
The garages still not to be built by the end of the season!
Future star:
Again 5 or 6 I could choose from.

LANCASHIRE LEAGUE:
Winners?
The usual suspects (Burnley, Ramsbottom, Lowerhouse) and there are plenty more on their tail...should be an exciting season.

Player to watch out for?
Matthew Coulter drunk in charge of a pram.

What progress would have like the club to have made in 12 months time?
I would like to see us as a competitive Lancashire League side, with competition for places provided by the youngsters pushing through.
